The Succulent Guy Speaks
Robin loves to speak to groups in California and around the United States! He’s been a frequent presenter at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, Sunset Celebration, and San Francisco Flower & Garden Show. He loves to present talks to garden clubs and plant societies. Recently, he addressed the Philadelphia Cactus & Succulent Society. He’s not just a west coast guy!
While he has a standard offering of popular presentations, he’s also happy to customize for individual audiences. Here are his most requested talks:
Succulents are the ideal plant for vertical garden, whether one is creating small living pictures or wreaths to huge murals or show installations like the succulent Globe and Cube. Robin discusses the vertical gardening process and gives tips and tricks for trying it at home.
Landscaping with Succulents
With drought and water use in the headlines, homeowners want to know how to have beautiful landscapes that don’t drain precious resources. Succulents are the answer! Learn how to design and plant gorgeous landscapes using succulents as the main attraction, or in harmony with other water-wise choices. Get tips that address specifics of growing in your environment.
Succulent Care & Maintenance
Planting the plants is only half the battle. And, contrary to popular belief, succulents are not “no care” plants. Attendees will learn how to grow the most vibrant, healthy succulents in containers and in the landscape.
The Succulent Globe
What does it take to build a literal world of succulents? Robin gives your audience an armchair journey through conceiving, fabricating, planting, growing, building, and displaying the succulent Globe. It’s horticulture-on a global scale.
Not everyone is lucky enough to grow succulents in frost-free regions. There are, however, plenty of succulent plants that grow well even where the mercury dips. This talk focuses on selection and care of hardy succulents.

The Slow Flowers Podcast
I’ve been interviewed by many a writer/social media person, but few have been as prepared and thorough as Debra in preparing for her newsletter announcing the podcast featuring the Succulent Guy. A link from the newsletter sends the reader to the podcast and the interview in which Debra and I spoke non stop about my journey through the succulent world and more specifically about succulents in the cut flower/floral industry. Debra leads off with an interview of the owner of Windmill Gardens in Washington State. Listen if you wish and learn a bit about Windmill and the cut flower industry. If you want to get right to my interview, go to minute 16 for about 45 minutes of Debra leading me as deftly as Terry Gross, one of my favorite of all interviewers. She keeps the interview going seamlessly while we thoroughly enjoy each others company. Writing this book has led me to some great experiences and connecting with Debra adds to the fantastic voyage.
